Portraits 2020-2024

I often find myself absorbed in the facial features of the passengers on public transportation in New York City, the city where I live and work. The uniqueness of each person and the reflected personality is my inspiration for painting portraits.

since 2020 the human face is almost always present in my work. During the pandemic years I was mostly in isolation and developed the longing to human interaction.   The portraits depicted simple moments in everyday life such as eating, drinking, resting or reading a book at bedtime.  Some of the portraits are more realistic than others, and I welcomed expressive and abstract element to emphasis the narratives hidden within faces and the human experience. I sometimes draw my friends in my studio or attend weekly visit to the life drawing studio. Sometimes I find inspiration in old black and white photos or draw people I see on TV. I'm a multi-disciplinary artist and use oil and acrylic paint, pencil, oil pastel, charcoal and ink regularly.
