Looking at Alen MacWeeney’s photos of Dublin in 1963

This group of works includes small mixed media works on paper, small and medium-sized acrylic paintings on canvas paper and larger oil paintings on canvas. The inspiration for the paintings are black and white photographs of Alen from Dublin in 1963.

During 2020 and 2021, Alen and I collaborated on a book project of these photographs. The various figures that inhabit the images, wandering in landscapes or in enclosed spaces, have become the main theme of this series of work. I took the liberty to bring them together, create different situations and tell a new story.
